Layer shifting/ Print quality drop due to damaged belt.

Belts are the main driving elements of our 3D printers. The belts used in our printers are robust and withstand all the forces exerted on them during printing. But sometimes they get damaged. Since belts are main workhorses of the machine, even a minor issue with belt will cause errors in printing. Periodic checking of belt wear and tear marks is necessary for smooth functioning of the machine.

In case your machine is layer shifting do the following checks.

1.Check belt tightness: The belt should neither be too loose or too tight. In simple it, should be firm like a guitar string. If the belt is too tight there are chances of belt getting damaged and also extra load is exerted on the motors. If the belt is too loose layers shifting will occur. If not layer shifting the print quality will  be reduced.

2. Carefully check belt teeth: If belt teeth is damaged the movement of extruder head will be having some play. This play will cause reduction in print quality. If the teeth are damaged the belt needs replacement.

3. Check belt edges for damage:  If the belt is rubbing against the pulley  or so the belt edges get damaged. If the edges are damaged severely the belt needs replacement.
